DEATH. VOID. TERROR. complete the Monolith trilogy with Rifts

The Swiss collective Jünger Tumilon — known for Ungfell, Arkhaaik and a web of related projects — has announced the release of **To the Great Monolith III: Rifts**, the third full-length from their Death. Void. Terror. entity, on **25 September 2026** through **Sentient Ruin Laboratories**.
The album arrives six years after *To the Great Monolith II* (2020) and follows the August 2026 EP *To the Great Monolith 2.5*, which served as a preview of the new direction. Where the first two instalments were entirely improvised exercises in cavernous black ambience and doom-laden noise, *Rifts* introduces consciously composed bass lines and additional textures while keeping guitars, drums and vocals in the realm of instinctual improvisation.
Metal Epidemic's Aeons Burning describes the result as "one of the best atmospheric black metal albums I've heard this year," noting a shift from oppressive brutality toward a more stripped-back, minimalist approach with layered vocal styles ranging from chanting to death-metal growls and unconventional techniques. The opener "I. (– — – — -) Gözdyrey" builds over twelve minutes; "II. (- — – –) Ids Elrekis Frakhetir" brings a stomping riff reminiscent of Arkhaaik; later tracks incorporate organ-like guitar tones and a whimsical, almost Danny Elfman-esque conclusion.
Nine Circles' Colin observes that the "rift" is both a compositional break — introducing conscious structure into a previously wholly improvised process — and a thematic one, as the album seems to swallow the wider Jünger Tumilon universe and reflect it back through the project's unconscious side. The review draws parallels to the textural post-metal of Neurosis and the organ-like guitar sound of Ophanim's *Tämpelskläng*.
A track premiere for "V. (-- ---) Daphnyr" is available via the Sentient Ruin Laboratories YouTube channel. The video, verified through YouTube oEmbed, presents a ritualistic slice of the album's hypnotic, trance-inducing sound.
*To the Great Monolith III: Rifts* will be available on LP, CD, cassette and digital formats.
