Welsh heavy-psych pioneers Budgie see their 1973–1975 MCA trilogy — Never Turn Your Back on a Friend, In for the Kill! and Bandolier — collected in a new three-CD box set titled Running From My Soul: The MCA Years 1973–1975, released 25 September via Cherry Red's HNE imprint. The package restores the original Roger Dean and Patrick Woodroffe cover art and adds single edits and B-sides, though licensing prevents inclusion of 'Crash Course in Brain Surgery'. Echoes and Dust reviewer Zachary Nathanson notes the set captures Budgie at their creative peak, moving between crushing riffs, folk interludes and progressive detours that prefigured the NWOBHM and thrash generations. Metallica, Iron Maiden and Soundgarden all covered Budgie material, underscoring the band's outsized influence. The reissue arrives as a timely reminder that this Cardiff power trio helped write the blueprint for heavier, stranger rock while many contemporaries were still finding their footing.
