Black Doldrums share 'Waiting' ahead of Repetition Compulsion

Black Doldrums

London post-punk trio Black Doldrums have released 'Waiting', the third single from their forthcoming album Repetition Compulsion, due 13 November 2026 on Fuzz Club. The track arrives with an official video on the label's YouTube channel.

Written around the same sessions as the band's second album In Limerence (2024), 'Waiting' forms a bridge between the two records, carrying forward the theme of limerence while exploring the darker side of love, longing and obsession. Kevin Gibbard wrote the lyrics in one sitting early one morning while literally waiting for Sophie Landers to wake up; the song became a meditation on the idea that if you love someone enough, you'll wait forever.

Repetition Compulsion takes its title from the Freudian concept of the unconscious tendency to recreate familiar emotional patterns, destructive behaviours and inherited cycles. Across eleven tracks the album examines how these repetitions shape intimate relationships, collective memory, politics and mental wellbeing. The band cite 80s gothic post-punk, synth-pop, darkwave and the atmospheric film scores of John Carpenter and Vangelis as touchstones, layered with analogue synths, chorus-soaked guitars and driving rhythms.

Fuzz Club describes the record as Black Doldrums' most fully realised work to date, completing their interconnected 'State of Mind Trilogy' that began with Dead Awake (2022). Pre-orders for limited neon yellow vinyl (350 hand-numbered copies), ultra-clear vinyl and CD are open via the Fuzz Club shop.
