Travo: Zachary Nathanson reviews Wasteland on Echoes and Dust

Portuguese heavy-psych quartet Travo release Wasteland on 2 October via Fuzz Club Records. The Braga-based band — Jaime, João, Miguel and Ricardo — recorded their fourth album in early 2026 at ARDA Recorders in Porto with producer Jaime Arellano (Ghost, Ulver, Behemoth), marking their first release for the label after three years of near-constant European touring.
The seven tracks draw loose inspiration from T. S. Eliot's The Waste Land, channelling themes of techno-anxiety, dislocation, death and rebirth into a sound that pushes further into metallic territory than 2023's Astromorph God. Fuzz Club describes the record as an aggressive, genre-bending rock album knocking on metal's door while still breathing through the chaos; synths feature more prominently than before, and the vocals range from falsetto melodies to growled extremes.
Zachary Nathanson, reviewing for Echoes and Dust on 17 September, calls it a balls-out, out-of-this-world powerhouse that demands repeat listens. He highlights the wah-wah guitar textures, tribal drum-and-bass passages and Zeuhl-like rhythmic twists, noting that Travo have come a long way since their early days and show how far they are willing to push themselves. The review concludes that Wasteland isn't simply a great album but the kind that reveals another strange sound or riff on every spin.
Lead single Burial arrived with an official video in June, followed by the title-track visualiser in July and a third single, Decipher, in September. Pre-orders for the limited Magma vinyl (300 hand-numbered copies), Volcanic Smoke vinyl and CD are open via Fuzz Club.
