Berlin-based Vanilla Bats have released the video for Mirror Face, the lead single from their upcoming second album It's Getting Dark. The track arrived on 23 September and finds the band leaning into a darker, more dance-driven sound — dark disco informed by Roxy Music, A Certain Ratio and Duran Duran, with a touch of Scott Walker in Chris Frey's vocal. The song began with phone demos from Frey, mostly bass ideas and chiming guitar parts; Joshua Wells at The Mango Pit in Chicago mixed the track and added percussion, pushing it further toward the dancefloor. Frey, originally from Vancouver, played in Radio Berlin, The Book of Lists and Destroyer before a Black Mountain European tour brought him to Berlin, where he formed Vanilla Bats. Their debut Citrus Finds a Wound appeared in 2023. The video was shot and edited by Heather Trawick. Mirror Face suggests the next album will take things in a more rhythmic direction.
