Japanese krautrock quartet Minami Deutsch formed in Tokyo in 2014, channelling the motorik pulse of Can and Neu! through a distinctly Japanese psychedelic lens. This official live recording captures "Concrete Ocean" at the Trades Club in Hebden Bridge, UK, during their 2019 European tour. The band — Kyotaro Miula (guitar, vocals), Takuya Kameda (bass), Daiki Yamamoto (drums), and Fuyuki Yamamoto (synth) — locks into a hypnotic 16-minute groove where repetitive bass patterns and metronomic drumming anchor spiralling guitar and synth textures. The performance exemplifies the group's disciplined approach to motorik psychedelia: tight, trance-inducing, and built for the live room. Minami Deutsch have since released albums on Guruguru Brain and toured with Kikagaku Moyo; their 2022 LP "With Dim Light" further refined the formula. This archive pick reminds why their early European shows made a quiet impact on the psych-kraut underground.
