Australian psychedelic shapeshifters King Gizzard & The Lizard Wizard have surprise-released their 28th studio album, Alien Metal, on 14 August 2026 via their own p(doom) Records. The record marks a sharp pivot into electronic territory — techno, acid house and synth-driven krautrock — while retaining the band's motorik pulse.

Announced on 8 July 2026 with lead single "Sapience", the eight-track album runs: Sapience, Alien Metal, Superheavy Supercritical, Kill For The Steel, Level 5, Rapid Alpha Decay, Uqt, Atomic Collapse. Visualisers by longtime collaborator Jason Galea accompany each track.

The band describes Alien Metal as their "first hard electronic album". Pre-orders for translucent light-blue vinyl (180 g, high-gloss jacket, double-sided poster) and deluxe CD (20-page hardcover booklet, obi strip) are open via p(doom) Records US/EU stores. Alien Metal follows 2025's Flight b741 and extends the group's staggering output to 28 albums in 16 years.
