From the archive: Kikagaku Moyo live at The Regent Theater, Los Angeles 2019

Kikagaku Moyo brought their hypnotic psych-rock to The Regent Theater in Los Angeles on 6 March 2019, a show captured by Daniel Kirby Records. The five-piece — Go Kurosawa (drums/vocals), Tomo Katsurada (guitar/vocals), Ryu Kurosawa (sitar/keys), Daoud Popal (guitar) and Kotsuguy (bass) — moves through floating drones, motorik grooves and sitar-laced peaks that defined their Masana Temples era. The recording preserves the band's interplay in a mid-sized venue, where the sitar's microtonal bends sit naturally against fuzz-heavy riffs and Kurosawa's steady pulse. With the group's members now dispersed across solo and collaborative projects, this footage stands as a vivid document of Japanese psychedelia's most internationally visible lineup at full stretch. An archive selection for listeners tracing the scene's recent arc.
