From the archive: Can live at Rockpalast 1970

The legendary Cologne collective Can performed for West German broadcaster WDR's Rockpalast in Soest, November 1970 — a full-length concert now on the official WDR Rockpalast channel. The lineup — Holger Czukay (bass), Jaki Liebezeit (drums), Michael Karoli (guitar), Irmin Schmidt (keyboards) and Malcolm Mooney (vocals) — delivers the elastic, hypnotic interplay that defined early Can: Mooney's incantatory vocals riding Czukay's melodic bass and Liebezeit's metronomic drumming, while Karoli and Schmidt trade exploratory lines. The set draws from the Monster Movie / Soundtracks era, capturing the group before Damo Suzuki's arrival. An essential archive document of krautrock's most rhythmically inventive ensemble, filmed at the start of their canonical decade.
