The Somnambulist premiere 'September Shoals' with Luc Van Lieshout of Tuxedomoon

Somnambulist September Shoals 2026 09 25

The Somnambulist have premiered 'September Shoals', their first new song since the 2022 album 'Some More Songs Lost in Themselves' and the lead single from an EP due in early 2027. The track brings in Luc Van Lieshout of Tuxedomoon on trumpet, alongside pianist Marius Moritz and double bassist Sofia Eftychidou.

The Tuxedomoon connection is a natural one: The Somnambulist have long drawn comparisons to the Belgian-American post-punk group's atmospheric, jazz-adjacent approach. When Marco Bianciardi spoke to It's Psychedelic Baby Magazine in 2022, he described the band as working 'more like a jazz collective than a rock band', and noted that Moritz had already recorded with them. Four years later he returns on 'September Shoals'.

Musically the single reaches back toward the jazz-inflected side of the band's earlier work — particularly 'Sophia Verloren' (2012) — without simply recreating that period. Lyrically it concerns the question of whether silence can be an act of love: keeping something to yourself for someone else's sake, even when they may never know why you chose not to speak.

Bianciardi directed and shot the accompanying video himself in a single continuous take using a VR180 camera. It reimagines the Orpheus and Eurydice myth with shifted roles: Orpheus follows rather than leads, and Eurydice simply moves too far ahead to be reached. Dancer and actor Elisa Bartoli appears on screen, walking through an abandoned landscape on a warm September day. The video premiered on 24 September, a day ahead of the single's official release on 25 September via Slowing Records.

'September Shoals' is the first of three singles leading to the new EP. The band's sound continues to evolve through changing personnel and circumstances, a process Bianciardi has described as necessary rather than strategic.
