Flor de Loto: Peruvian prog fusion with Andean winds

Peruvian progressive rock band Flor de Loto gave an extensive interview to Echoes and Dust, published on 24 September 2026. Founded in 1998, the group has released nine albums, the latest being Cosmos (2025) on Oskar Records. The current line-up — Alejandro Jarrín (bass), Alonso Herrera (guitar, vocals), Sergio Cuadros (wind instruments) and Álvaro Escobar (drums) — fuses progressive rock and metal with traditional Andean wind instruments such as panpipes and quenas.
The interview traces the band's evolution from early improvisations through the gradual incorporation of Andean instrumentation, which began when a keyboard player left and was replaced by a wind instrumentalist. Alejandro Jarrín cites Jethro Tull and Iron Maiden as reference points; producer Roy Z once described their sound as "Iron Maiden and Jethro Tull meeting high up in Machu Picchu." The band operates mainly within Peru's metal scene, where the audience for progressive rock is limited, and has played festivals in Brazil, Mexico, Chile and the UK — including the Cart and Horses in London, a venue tied to Iron Maiden's early history.
Lyrically, Flor de Loto focus on introspective themes rather than overt politics or fantasy. The song "Imperio de Cristal" critiques superficiality in music and media. The band plans further shows in Peru and Brazil in late 2026 and is preparing European tour dates for 2027. Physical albums are available via their Bandcamp with worldwide shipping.
