Wolves In The Throne Room: Martyn Coppack reviews Estuary on Echoes and Dust

US atmospheric black metal institution Wolves In The Throne Room receives a glowing review for its forthcoming album Estuary, due 23 October 2026 via Century Media (EU/UK/ROW) and Relapse Records (North America). Martyn Coppack, writing for Echoes and Dust on 29 September 2026, describes the record as a measured evolution from the band's earlier chaos: heavy on atmospherics, with opener 'Estuary' and 'Knights Of Tiamat' painting the band as masters of USBM who understand when to slow down and when to unleash hell.
Coppack highlights 'Foretold In Reflections' as a doomier affair with down-tuned guitars and haunting atmospherics, calling it a real awe-inspiring moment. 'The Orca Cliffs' ups the ante into a cinematic landscape of emotional peaks and troughs, while 'Ghost Among The Obelisks' sweeps with enormous scope. The final track 'Wretched Spirits, Land Of The Light' retains old-school black metal rawness, bringing the album full circle. Coppack concludes this is an incredible listen and album-of-the-year contender.
The title-track video premiered on the band's official YouTube channel. Pre-orders are open via Relapse Records and Century Media.
