The Obelisk reviews Stoned Jesus 'Songs to Moon', second part of the trilogy

Stoned Jesus

Ukrainian stoner-progressive trio Stoned Jesus have released 'Songs to Moon', the second instalment of a planned three-album cycle following 2025's 'Songs to Sun'. The album arrived on 16 October via Season of Mist. J.J. Koczan's review on The Obelisk traces the band's evolution since frontman Igor Sydorenko relocated from war-affected Ukraine to Germany and assembled a new rhythm section with bassist Andrew Rodin and drummer Yurii Ciel (since replaced by Ihor Biriuchenko).

The 40-minute record opens with the heavy post-metal push of 'Under the Skin' and the doomgaze hook of lead single 'Velvet', before moving through the intricate 'ZYX' and the instrumental centrepiece 'Syzygy', which weaves a melody from each trilogy entry. The theatrical 'Jackal' builds through stop-start dynamics to a feedback climax, while the acoustic-led 'Window in My Room' and the sparse, storm-backed closer 'One More Empty Day' strip the sound back to nylon-string guitar and Sydorenko's hushed vocals. Koczan describes the album as 'multifaceted, complex in its purposes' and notes its 'masterful' front-to-back flow.

Recorded at Goblin Sound Studio in Cologne with Karl Daniel Lidén mixing and mastering at Studio Tri-Lamb in Sweden, 'Songs to Moon' is tagged psychedelic rock, stoner doom and progressive rock on Bandcamp. Official videos for 'Under the Skin' and 'Velvet' are on the Season of Mist YouTube channel.
