Liminal release third album Hyper Normal

Liminal

Australian experimental psych-rock band Liminal released their third album Hyper Normal on 16 October 2026. Based in the Northern Rivers region of New South Wales, the four-piece grew out of a local DIY psychedelic scene and long jam sessions. Hyper Normal draws on 1960s and 1970s psychedelic and progressive rock, jazz rhythms and electronic experimentation, crossing into doom metal and acid house. The album's title refers to the concept of hypernormalisation, taken from anthropologist Alexei Yurchak and popularised by filmmaker Adam Curtis: a state in which people recognise social contradictions yet accept them as normal. Liminal connect the idea to looming collapse, the ethics of expression and distrust of truth itself. Alako Myles handles songwriting, recording, mixing and video production for the band, and the cover art is by Myles as well. The band played SXSW Sydney in 2024 and 2025 and supported Djo. The lead single The Crop is accompanied by an official music video built with DIY backyard VFX and three-dimensional graphics.
