Kavus Torabi: Echoes and Dust reviews October By Name

British psychedelic polymath Kavus Torabi — known for Knifeworld, Gong, Cardiacs and The Utopia Strong — receives a review for his third solo album October By Name on Echoes and Dust. The review by Zachary Nathanson, published 25 September 2026, describes the six-track record as a surreal, dream-inspired journey that draws on Torabi's recent work with Gong and Cardiacs as well as the improvisational project The Utopia Strong.
Nathanson traces the album's arc from the psychedelic waltz of opening track 'Signals Shine' through the Terry Riley-meets-Eno drift of 'From the Storm' and the raga-like meditation of 'Ancestor's Song', to the Knifeworld-reminiscent chaos of 'My Shameful Namesake' and the epic, underwater atmosphere of 'Water Into Wine'. He notes that Torabi's approach — performing and recording everything himself, drawing and lettering the artwork by hand — makes the album's shortcomings part of its character.
The lead single 'Water Into Wine' was released with an official video on Torabi's YouTube channel in August 2026. October By Name is due 2 October on Believers Roast. Torabi begins a UK tour in October 2026.
