Destruction Of Orion: David Bowes reviews States Of Horror on Echoes and Dust

Destruction Of Orion

Bulgarian funeral doom project Destruction Of Orion — the solo work of composer Tehina Spasova (Orion) — receives a physical release for States Of Horror on September 30 via Aesthetic Death, following its digital debut in 2025. David Bowes' review on Echoes and Dust describes the album as a vast suite of sepulchral drones, gothic chamber music and bestial growls that convey a sense of longing and solitude so thick it verges on suffocating. Spasova's sepulchral growl sits low in the mix, leaving space for guitars and synth to paint morose symphonies in infinite shades of grey. Baroque and neoclassical flourishes — piano interludes on 'Lethargy', a music-box melody on 'Anhedonia' — provide elegant transitions rather than mere contrast. At over 50 minutes with only the intro and outro under seven minutes, States Of Horror is an album made to drown in, demanding time to absorb its monolithic presence. The physical edition arrives alongside a reissue of the debut Decreasing Brightness, with a new record promised later this year.
