Hostile review

The double album Rolling Stone panned in 1968

Released in the US on 16 October 1968. A contemporary hostile review, alongside chart results with their dates.

The verdict at the time

Glover admitted he was 'set not to dig this LP', praised Hendrix's musicianship, but dismissed 'Burning of the Midnight Lamp' as 'on the whole a drag . . . it goes nowhere' and the '1983' finale as 'in several ways, a bummer', criticising its 'heavy handed guitar'. A hostile take on the record that reached number one.
